Would You Date Your Job?

I just read the results of an interesting survey of 1,215 full- and part-time workers who were asked to rate how they felt about their jobs using this unusual 5-point scale:

  • I like my job so much I’d marry it
  • I like my job enough I’d date it seriously
  • It’s OK, I’d date it casually
  • I don’t like it, it won’t last long
  • I hate it, I want to break up with it immediately

More than a third - 34 percent - of the people surveyed said that they like their job enough to date it seriously. The largest percentage of people or 43 percent, said that they felt OK about their job and would date it casually. Only 9 percent liked their job enough to marry it while the remaining 14 percent were on the verge of a break up.

These results are similar to other, more conventional surveys that have been conducted on employee engagement levels (pun intented). What sort of relationship do you have with your job?

Note: this was an online survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Taleo Corp.
