Career Dissatisfaction
According to a recent survey conducted by careerbuilder.com, 4 out of 5 people say that they are not in their ideal job. Another study by the The Conference Board found that fewer than half of all workers are satisfied in their current jobs. Here are some other interesting factoids:
- 1 out of 4 workers today is working for a company where they have been employed for less than 1 year
- About half of all workers have been working for the same employer for less than 5 years
- Today’s high school students will have 10 to 14 different jobs by the age of 38
The world of work today is vastly different than it was when I began my professional career and it is certain to continue to change over your working lifetime.
Given the tenuous nature of employment these days, people of all ages are looking for something more than a paycheck from their job. Of course, people want to be paid fairly, and they also want their work to be fulfilling, meaningful, and stimulating. If you are dissatisfied in your current job and thinking about making a move, I recommend that you work with a coach before making the leap. As a former client said, “I want to make a conscious choice to run toward something new instead of just running away from where I am now.”
