Why Coaching?

You may be asking yourself, is coaching right for me and is it worth the investment of my time and money? Only you can answer that question, but here are some things to consider.

A 2004 study by Manchester Consulting (now Right Management Consultants) found that executive coaching delivers a return on investment of nearly six times the initial cost of coaching. The study results demonstrate what we’ve known for some time - that coaching can have a dramatic impact on personal behavior, leadership effectiveness and business performance.

Some of the more common reasons to work with a coach are to:

The only prerequisite for coaching is a willingness to change. See if you are ready for coaching by taking a self-assessment.

Beyond Training

“Training without coaching is merely entertainment.” Dave Buck

True learning and development require more than attending a training class. Training is important, but it should not be confused with learning. Training is an event. Learning is a process.

When you attend a training class, you are introduced to new skills and concepts or reminded of something you have heard before but didn’t retain. The real learning takes place in the days, weeks, and months after the training event is over.

A 1997 study of 31 public sector managers by Baruch College researchers found that a training program alone increased productivity by 28 percent.  With the addition of follow-up coaching, productivity increased by 88 percent—a remarkable 60 point difference!

The process of coaching locks in the learning and reinforces new behaviors and habits. If you are ready to step up to the next level and move from acceptable to exceptional, try coaching!

This group and others like it are designed to connect job seekers with people who may be able to help them in some way.  The piece was written by Laura Raines and appeared in the Sunday, June 28, 2009 edition of the AJC. You can read the article here.

If you are interested in being a Job Angel or seeking assitance from a Job Angel, search for this group on LinkedIn and join!  Job Angels is also tweeting on Twitter.  While you’re at it, be sure to invite me to join your LinkedIn network and sign up to follow me on Twitter.

Why Twitter?

I’m not a social media newbie, but it took me a while to start using Twitter.  My hesitation was associated with the cost-benefit analysis I was doing in my head.  The cost being time spent “tweeting” and the benefit being a big question mark.  After months of analysis with no clear answer, I decided to try Twitter on for size and see if it fit.
